Dana Molded Products Completes Construction on New $8,000,000 State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility
Dana Molded Products, a leading manufacturer of custom plastic injection molded products, announces its move from Arlington Heights, IL to a new 86,000 square foot facility in Carpentersville, IL, effective December 5, 2011.
Carpentersville, IL. December 5, 2011: After months of planning, construction, and relocating, Dana Molded Products, Inc. is pleased to announce the opening of its new injection molding facility and corporate headquarters for both Dana Molded and Dana Plastic Container (DMP’s sister company producing blow molded containers) in Carpentersville, IL.
Preparing for the Future: "Despite the current economic climate, we felt the construction of this facility and expansion in our production capability was vital," said David Hidding President. "This new facility demonstrates our commitment to better and faster service for our customers. It makes it possible for us to streamline the manufacturing process and expand our capabilities allowing us to add value to our services we provide our customers.” When planning the layout of the facility, situated on 5.7 acres, DMP laid plans for the ability to add up to 27,000 more square feet to the facility in the future.
Sustainable Manufacturing Meets Plastic Injection Molding at Long Last: After determining that the 5.7 acre location of the new plant was located over a geological aquifer DMP investigated ways to utilize this natural energy source enabling the company to reduce its carbon footprint. The company decided utilize geothermal energy, the constant 52 degree temperature of the water below grade allows geothermal wells to provide heat transfer without the need for a traditional cooling system. The geothermal system allows dual use for both process cooling and to control the ambient temperature of the manufacturing floor. This process eliminates the need for a 200 ton process chiller and tower system, eliminates 120 tons of air conditioning and reduces water evaporation by over 85%. The net result of this system is the pure reduction in DMP’s energy consumption by more than 1.2 million kilowatt hours annually and reduction in the carbon footprint by more than 600 tons of carbon dioxide annually. Couple that with the fact that over 10% of energy consumed by the facility is derived from renewable energy sources adds another 500,000 pounds of CO2 savings. This allows DMP to be considered a Sustainable Manufacturer.
